What Should Be In Your Chicken First Aid Kit?

As much as I can, I am going to offer natural alternatives for chicken health care. However, there are times a veterinary and prescription medications are needed. Below is a list of items that you should have near in case of emergency:

Pick-No-More, anti-pick spray/lotion	Ingredients: Water, Methyl Anthranilate*, Tea Tree Oil, Calendula, Aloe Vera gel.
Poultry VetRx	100% natural remedy for colds and respiratory infections.
HydroPak, or All Flock	New Although listed as multi-species, it is formulated with probiotics, electrolytes and acidifiers. Supports healthy digestion. Mix in water according to the directions.
Tweezers
Dawn dish detergent	For washing and cleansing.
Gauze and bandages (non-stick)	For wounds.
Scissors
Vetrap	To secure bandages.
Disposable gloves
Diatomaceous Earth (powder made from fossilized aquatic remains)	Must be food grade. Dust chickens for any bugs that have an exoskeleton. 2% in food ratio for removal of internal worms.
Saline solution	Rinsing and cleansing wounds. Eye treatment.
Cornstartch	Stops bleeding, helps with skin irritation.
Activated Charcoal	Never give dry, make into a slurry. Dry charcoal will be aspirated into the lungs. Use very sparingly for treatment of coccidiosis.
Wazelene/Vaseline	Waxelene is a natural alternative to petroleum jelly. Used for frostbite on comb, covering wounds and protection. Vaseline is a petroleum jelly product.
Vetericyn Plus Utility Gel	Not all natural, but has no alcohol, steroids or antibiotics. Safe if licked off.
Epsom Salt	For soaking feet (Bumblefoot) or other infections.
Super Glue gel	For broken beak repair.
Bacitracin/Neosporin ointment	Yes, an antibiotic ointment, but sometimes needed for infection. Safe if ingested. Neosporin has been linked to allergic reactions, but treats more types of bacteria than Bacitracin.
LED flashlight	Light if needed. Keeps you from looking for one in an emergency.
Nail clippers	Toenail and other maintenance.

Garlic juice spray	For the removal of mites, 10% garlic juice, 90% water in a spray bottle.
Pumpkin, garlic and nasturtiums	Natural de-wormers.
Raw honey	has anti-bacterial properties. Used as a would treatment. Reduces inflammation.
Molasses	Blood builder, high in iron, and has healing properties. Give in small quantities.
Oregano Oil	Used as a substitute for antibiotics. Trials have not proven or disproven this.
Cayenne Pepper powder	Some people believe that the pepper can help through molting season and help increased laying at the end of winter. While it won’t hurt your chickens, there is no scientific backing for this.
Apple Cider Vinegar	Guards against bad bacteria and digestive health. Use 1 tablespoon per gallon of water once a week. Garlic water can also be used in the ratio of 2% to 90$% water.
Ground Cinnamon, Garlic powder, Green Tea and dried Oregano	Works well with probiotic powder. (HydroPak)
